Hobs 3D Manchester celebrates official opening

Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, officially launched Hobs 3D Manchester and its exciting new 3D printing facilities with the unveiling of a 3D printed Manchester worker-bee plaque. Hobs 3D has now moved from Dale Street to larger offices in Manchester’s Northern Quarter on Newton Street. As well as drinks and a canapé reception, the Hobs 3D team demonstrated 3D Printing, Architectural Model-Making, 3D software and training.

The Mayor of Greater Manchester was given a tour of the new Hobs 3D, which is 8044 sq. ft. providing more space for the growing team. This premises also has a new room for training sessions and exhibitions, a workshop and finishing room for spray painting 3D printed models, and virtual reality equipment to immerse customers in their 3D projects. The total investment in the new facilities and equipment was £280,000.

Andy Burnham commented: “I’m honoured to be officially opening this new 3D facility. Hobs 3D is a Greater Manchester business that continues to innovate, invest in new technology, create new jobs and is promoting Manchester’s tech credentials on a global stage.  Their various innovative 3D services are helping improve the built environment in the region.”

The Hobs 3D staff have scanned full buildings, including historic castles, Manchester Cathedral and Manchester Town Hall. However, staff have also scanned and 3D printed smaller items, from pets, through to Top Gear presenter James May and Bez from the Happy Mondays; more celeb scans in the pipeline!

When NASA astronaut Chris Hadfield, who served as commander of the international space station, visited Manchester, the Hobs 3D team couldn’t resist 3D printing him a toy rocket, live, during his visit.

Mo Isap, Director of Hobs 3D Manchester commented: “We’re very excited to have officially opened our new office and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed welcoming Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, to show him the new technologies and expertise we are bringing to projects.  Our Manchester team has many years of experience in architecture and construction and we are looking forward to continuing a high level of service and to be extending the range of services we offer to existing and new customers.’
