The UK’s largest 3D printed master plan model has been unveiled at Barking Riverside, one of Europe’s largest Brownfield developments – which will deliver over 10,800 new homes in East London.
Created by 3D technology specialists, Hobs 3D, the model measures 3.60m x 2.6m x 1m, and incorporates over 1,000 buildings, at a scale of 1:750 – demonstrating the sheer size of this ambitious housing project. A third of the surface of the model shows the River Thames.
Produced over a 4-and-a-half-week period at Hobs 3D in Central London, the model has been printed on the largest SLA 3D printer in the UK – an iPro 9000 XL, which has a build size of 1500 mm x 750 mm x 550mm.
Matthew Carpen, Project Director for Barking Riverside Limited, comments, “At Barking Riverside, we are dedicated to investing in the best of future technology to help bring to life our vision for the development. We are pleased to be championing the use of this technology for the industry.”
Using approximately 35 litres of resin, the model has been printed through a process known as stereolithography (SLA).
Michelle Greeff, MD of Hobs 3D, comments: “Using technology and automation – 3D printing allows the production of models to run considerably faster, while also creating a more accurate and detailed result, through the use of 3D photogrammetry data. It’s not just the printing that is a complex process – post-production is also key, with our specialist team adding in final details, to ensure that the model really captures the essence of Barking Riverside. We are proud to be the only company in the UK with the capacity to deliver such a large project to this tight time scale”
Assembled over a 2-day period, the model will be available to view in the new Experience Suite at the Barking Riverside Project office. Pop along to see the largest 3D Printed Master Plan in the UK!
