New Hobs Studio Glasgow opens its doors
Following booming demand, new 3D services have arrived in Glasgow with the opening of Hobs Studio Glasgow. This one-stop shop will uniquely bring together 3D Printing, 3D Laser Scanning and Photo-Realistic Visualisations plus Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality and will serve clients across Scotland. 3D services are creating a real buzz in architecture, construction, oil and gas and wind farm industries, where communicating complex information or design concepts is a regular challenge. 3D design files can be printed and delivered in as little as 24 hours. To celebrate the launch Hobs has 3D printed a number of well known Scottish landmarks including Edinburgh Castle, the Forth Rail bridge, the Armadillo building, Glasgow city centre and Glasgow Transport Museum, Finneston crane, the Duke of Wellington statue and Balmoral Castle.
A total of £300,000 is being invested in Hobs Studio Glasgow, both in the premises and in new 3D equipment, including a full (6-million) colour 3D printer, plus the latest 3D Laser Scanners which cuts the scanning time in half.
The new Hobs Studio Glasgow will be based in the existing Hobs Reprographics office in Woodlands Road, Glasgow, where Hobs is increasing its office space to 916 sq ft, with plans to increase its staff too, over the coming year.
Michelle Greeff, Managing Director of Hobs Studios comments, “Hobs Studios was launched in London and Manchester in 2014 and in response to huge demand for 3D services in Scotland we decided that our Glasgow office was the perfect choice for the next Hobs Studio. BIM (Building Information Modelling) is an innovative new way of working for Architects and the Construction Sector and our 3D services support its adoption. More and more companies are seeing the huge potential and we’re already showing that our 3D services will be at the heart of this revolution.”
The Hobs name will be familiar to many through Hobs Reprographics, one of the leading independent printing companies in Europe. The Glasgow office opened in 1995 and is well known for its first-class printing, bid and tender creation, document scanning and digital archiving services.
There is clear synergy between Hobs Reprographics and Hobs Studio, as Stephen Lacey, Director of Hobs Reprographics Glasgow comments, ‘We already have lots of loyal clients working in architecture, construction, oil and gas and renewable energy throughout Scotland. We work with them closely to present or convey their plans and ideas in the best possible light. We’re looking forward to working closely with the Hobs Studio Glasgow team and offering our clients the very latest 3D solutions to enhance their projects or bids even further. I’m delighted that Hobs Glasgow has been chosen for the creation of a 3D hub for Scotland.’
